Rosenberger SMP Connectors on board ExoMars 2016 Mission
On the 14th of March 2016 ESA (European Space Agency) launched the “Trace Gas Orbiter” and the entry, descent and landing demonstrator module “Schiaparelli” aiming Mars. On board: SMP Connectors by Rosenberger.

On the 19th of October, the Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) has successfully performed the long 139-minute burn required to be captured by Mars and entered an elliptical orbit around the Red Planet.

The goal of the mission is the search for evidence of methane and other trace atmospheric gases that could be signatures of active biological or geological processes. Also the test of key technologies in preparation for ESA’s contribution to subsequent missions to Mars will be in the center of the expedition.

A challenge in developing and producing connectors for spaceflight applications is selecting appropriate materials as well as the assembly with strict requirements to cleanliness. Finally, the connectors are tested and qualified for the high electrical requirements of aerospace applications.

In 2020 the next European mission will fly to Mars and Rosenberger has already first orders to provide more connectors for the journey to the Red Planet.
